Michael Liao has been giving gambling addiction presentations to my classes for years, and I know firsthand how creative, inspiring, and effective he is. He's able to relate to a range of individuals, offering culturally responsive approaches to issues such as addiction, counseling, and young adult stressors.

I am a veteran inner-city high school teacher with 27 years of experience and have collaborated with Michael Liao for many years. Michael consistently listens carefully, offers thoughtful suggestions, and brings a supportive, approachable presence to his work. A true humanist, he practices empathy, dignity, compassion, and social justice, and connects easily with both educators and students. He makes information accessible without judgment or bias. I have known Michael since 2011, when I served as Executive Director of NAPAFASA and oversaw the statewide Problem Gambling Prevention Technical Assistance and Training project. Michael played an instrumental role in creating and updating the statewide training curricula that increased service providers’s capacity to respond to gambling addiction. He also served as a lead trainer throughout the state. 

I have seen Michael present on cultural and linguistic accessibility in health care under federal standards, and he consistently demonstrates a deep understanding of both the legal framework and the lived experiences of diverse communities. His presentations are highly interactive, and he skillfully engages participants in discussion and reflection. Michael presents information in a way that is engaging, accessible, and deeply impactful for diverse audiences. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Michael for the past eight years within the public health sphere. During the height of the COVID‑19 response, he was an exceptional partner, serving as a vital liaison between the local health department and the community he represents. Michael consistently leads with equity at the forefront, and you can see that commitment reflected throughout his entire organization.
